Take Advantage of the Weather with these Outdoor Activities!

fall outdoor activites

November is in full swing! As the temperatures continue to cool and the leaves rotate colors, it’s also the perfect time for you to get out, get active and enjoy some exciting fall/winter outdoor activities as we approach the holiday season.

When most people think of exercise and physical activity as part of their journey toward improved weight and health, it’s easy to conjure up images of intense sweat sessions and hours spent putting in work at the gym. Although there is nothing wrong with these kinds of workouts, they’re not the only ones! First and foremost, it’s important that you just get moving — and this time of year presents an excellent time to do it!

Take Advantage of the Weather with these Outdoor Activities!

As the holiday season draws near, don’t limit yourself to staying indoors. Grab some warm clothes and durable shoes, and take advantage of all of these fun outdoor activities!

  • maple leafGo for a Hike – Exploring nature and getting some fresh air outdoors is a great way to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. You may find that the cooler weather is easier to walk in than the warmer spring and summer months, and it’s excellent for releasing endorphins and giving your muscles a chance to move.
  • Gather Firewood – If you have the outdoor space to build a bonfire, challenge your family and friends to go out and collect kindling and firewood to burn. Don’t just look within your yard — try going on some extended walks with a wagon or other carrying method and collect all that you can!
  • Participate in a Marathon – Marathons are an excellent way to challenge your fitness goals and have fun outdoors while warding off the extra calories from the holidays. Turkey trots in November and jingle bell runs in December are excellent examples.
  • Work Out with Chores – Those tedious tasks such as raking leaves in your yard or cleaning out your gutters are excellent ways to burn calories! Instead of thinking of those chores as obligations, think of them as opportunities to be productive around the house and to get active at the same time.
  • Enjoy Seasonal Sports – You don’t have to be a pro, but get moving with some fun outdoor sports! Football, ice skating, hockey and tennis are all excellent ways to take advantage of the cool weather and engage your mind and body during exercise.

No matter what activity you choose to do, just remember to get outside and get active! Don’t let the cooler weather and stress from the holiday season get you down. It’s an excellent time to take advantage of these end-of-the-year months and squeeze in that extra exercise!
