Technology has given us many new weight management tools: tracking steps on wearables, posting healthy selfies, and tweeting #mealpreps — you name it! However, one of the best tools technology offers is its ability to expand your peer support network — all from the comfort of your home or even the convenience of your mobile device!
The Obesity Action Coalition (OAC), producers of the Your Weight Matters Campaign, recently partnered with Smart Patients to create an online community for patients and caregivers who want to have an honest conversation about weight and health in a secure environment, and YOU can be a part of it! The online peer support of the Smart Patients community complements the work of the OAC by helping individuals along their journey toward better health through education, advocacy and support.
Here are some examples of the types of conversations that members from the Smart Patients community are having in our safe, supportive communities!
Helpful Tips and Practical Advice:
Share insights and advice on topics that matter most to you, such as how to maintain a healthy weight while you are traveling or during the holidays.
Engaging Questions and Thoughtful Responses:
Learn from others who are struggling with similar issues. You may not have all the answers, but you can motivate each other to keep trying to find them!
Emotional and Peer Support:
Share stories about the events or factors that led to your successes or failures. Connecting with others who understand can be incredibly affirming and empowering.
Joining the Smart Patients online community can help you realize you aren’t alone in the journey to health and wellness. By sharing our diverse experiences and stories with each other, we can find more ways to get healthy, stay healthy and feel good along the way. We encourage you to check out this valuable community as yet another resource to use for your journey and lay the foundation for success!
