Falling off the Fitness Wagon…and How to Get Back On

You can always climb back on the exercise wagon!

We all know the weight management journey isn’t always easy, but for some, incorporating fitness into your everyday routine can be one of the most challenging parts.

When you struggle with your weight and health, there are a variety of physical and mental barriers you may face along the way that could cause you to “fall off the fitness wagon.”

Perhaps it’s a simple lack of energy, or the mental barriers behind your line of thinking that tell you, “There’s no way I can make my body do that.” Maybe it’s even a lack of motivation or willingness that you’re struggling with. Exerting your body can be tough work, and it’s even tougher when you’re juggling your other day-to-day responsibilities such as work and family.

If you’ve fallen off the fitness wagon, know that you’re not alone and you’ve done nothing wrong. Below, we offer a few tips to help rejuvenate your goals and get you off and rolling back into the right direction.

Forgive Yourself

Maybe you have made a mistake, but you are NOT a mistake. Give yourself the love, respect and confidence you deserve to continue moving forward.

Reflect Back on Your Goals

What was it you originally wanted to accomplish? What goals did you create for yourself when you first started your weight management journey? Keep those goals in clear sight so you have a constant reminder of what you’re striving toward.

Assess Your Current Health

What are you physically able to accomplish right here and now? Where did you leave off, and what bodily challenges may be getting in your way? Knowing the answers to these questions is key for creating a healthy fitness foundation.

Create a Plan

You don’t have to make it perfect; just get it on paper! Perhaps you want to strive for at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day to start. Maybe you want to begin with some simple strength training exercises. Create your plan, keep it in sight and remember to stick to it!

Find Accountability

Make Fitness Fun

Exercise will always feel like a chore if you’re not having fun, and it will become easy to fall off the wagon once again. Do what you ENJOY doing. Do you prefer being outdoors? Get outside for a hike, bike ride or kayak adventure. Do you enjoy working out in the gym with others? Grab your headphones, find an affordable membership and arrive in style!

Remember, you’re never too far gone from where you want to be. If you have specific health, weight and fitness goals, you can reach them. Put any mistakes behind you and look FORWARD into the future. You owe it to yourself AND your health!
