Mindset: An Overlooked Tool for Your Weight and Health

Mindset Weight and Health

Most people focus on two major things when they begin down the path toward weight-loss and/or wellness: nutrition and exercise. However, while these tools are critical to long-term change, there’s much more to it than this!

In fact, one of the biggest factors of all seems to be completely overlooked — your mindset! Your mind is an essential tool because your choices and actions are largely determined by how you think and feel – day in and day out.

Five Mindset Tips to Help You Find Lasting Success

Below, discover some simple ways to find lasting success by shifting your perceptions, thoughts and behaviors!

check markSet Goals – Goals help you see where you are going, but many people create large goals in a short time and then feel defeated if/when they do not come to pass. It’s important that you set realistic goals to match your lifestyle, schedule and family – so start small! This will help you stay committed and consistent.

check markLook at the Long-term Gain vs Short-term Perceived Loss – Visualize or daydream about how amazing you’ll feel after reaching your long-term goals in the future! This will shift your thinking away from your short-term wants and back on the bigger things you truly desire. Do this for about 90 seconds to boost your mood, motivation and willpower!

check markMake Healthy Food = Enjoyable Food – Think about how nutritious foods are supporting your body, and this can help you see the value in healthier options. Tip: Write down a list of 10 healthy foods that you enjoy and start building a meal plan around them.  It’s important for you to stay satiated while tickling your taste buds!

check markMake Moving Fun – If you hate something, you’ll likely avoid doing it – so it’s important that you do something fun! Try creating a self-challenge that keeps you motivated and excited. When you’re mentally engaged, it keeps you wanting more!

check markCelebrate Your Mini-Successes – Many people look for a very specific weight or goal to be hit before they celebrate a success. Instead, celebrate your small wins because they are just as important as the big ones! This shows that you are on track and will help you feel good about your progress.
